Want to know why Booktober matters to me? Because I passionately believe that literacy matters. Access to books and education matters.
.
I am the daughter of migrants. I have never been part of the financially privileged upper class. It was only by a matter of hard work and good fortune that I received an academic scholarship to study at a wonderful school that provided me with access to books, a solid education, as well as fostering in me a lifelong love of learning, for which I am most grateful.
.
This is my opportunity to pay it forward in a small way. Booktober raises funds to foster children's literacy. This year, I am running a little personal giveaway to try to encourage even more people to donate to this important cause. If you make a donation to my Booktober fundraiser (all the proceeds will go directly to WestWords for implementation of children's literacy programs) you will go in the running to win a signed copy of my book - your choice of either my debut 'Banana Girl' (which has been long/short-listed for three Poetry Book Awards), or my brand new poetry collection that is due for release in March 2025.
.
Any donation* no matter how large or small (yes, you could technically donate $1 [though seriously - if you're going to the trouble at all, why not make your actions really meaningful...?!]) will go in the running to win a signed copy of my book (*the only caveat being that this giveaway applies only to people located within Australia, due to postage costs).
.
Thank you so much! Happy Booktober!! 😀
